Government schemes
What support is available to help you with installing a new air-source heat pump in your home.
The Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS) is a government grant for homeowners owners in England and Wales to replace fossil fuel heating with low-carbon alternatives. Administered by Ofgem, the scheme offers upfront grants of £7,500 for air-source heat pumps to significantly reduce installation costs.
The air-source heat pump grant will temporarily rise to £9,000 in the summer of 2026 for households currently using oil or LPG.
The process is installer-led. You cannot apply directly; instead, you must work with an MCS-certified installer. They will handle the application and redeem the voucher on your behalf to lower your final bill.
The GOV.UK website (opens in a new window) has a summary of the Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS), a list of eligibility criteria (including qualifying dates) as well as a guide to applying for a grant.
